Girls Day in Tecumseh: A Plan from Brunch to Browsing

Your friend group needs this day.

A girls day in Tecumseh Michigan basically plans itself. Everything is within a few blocks, the parking is free, and you’ll spend the whole afternoon saying “oh wait, let’s go in here too.” No spreadsheets required. Just pick a Saturday, text the group chat, and show up hungry.

Here’s the full plan, start to finish. Adjust as needed. Nobody’s grading you.

Start with Brunch Downtown

Get to Tecumseh by 10 AM. Park anywhere on Chicago Boulevard – seriously, parking is free and you’ll find a spot within a block or two of everything.

For brunch, the Saturday Farmers Market at The Market on Evans (213 N. Evans Street) runs 9 AM to 1 PM from May through October. Grab pastries, coffee, and fresh-baked goods from local vendors while you warm up for the real shopping ahead.

If you want a sit-down meal, Tecumseh Tavern on East Chicago Boulevard does a solid lunch with cocktails. It’s right in the middle of everything, so you can eat and then walk in either direction without moving your car.

Pro tip: eat enough to fuel you through at least three hours of browsing. You’re going to need it.

Antique Shopping on Chicago Boulevard

After brunch, head east on Chicago Boulevard to Antiques & Vintage on the Boulevard. This place is dangerous in the best way. Multiple rooms of vintage furniture, home decor, primitives, shabby chic finds, and seasonal stuff you didn’t know you needed.

The whole stretch of Chicago Boulevard has that “one more shop” energy. You’ll walk in thinking you’re just looking. You’re not. Between the antique shops and the small boutiques, someone in your group is going home with a vintage sign or a set of mismatched plates. Accept it now.

There’s also the Gallery of Shops to hit while you’re on this stretch – another multi-vendor spot where you can easily lose 45 minutes without trying.

Chocolate at Harvest Chocolate

This is the stop everyone will talk about afterward. Harvest Chocolate at 110 W. Chicago Boulevard is a bean-to-bar chocolate shop right in downtown Tecumseh.

They make everything in-house starting from the actual cocoa bean. Single origin dark chocolate, seasonal flavors, milk chocolate, white chocolate – all crafted on site. They also carry ice cream in rotating flavors from small-batch Michigan dairies, plus curated Michigan food products like Carosello Pasta and Madcap Coffee.

The shop is open Wednesday through Sunday (closed Monday and Tuesday), so plan your girls day accordingly. Saturday is your best bet – they open at 9 AM.

If your group is into it, check their schedule for monthly Chocolate Tasting Events. You’ll learn about the roasting process, taste different origins, and leave with a bag of bars for “gifts” that you’ll absolutely eat yourself.

Browse the Boutiques

Downtown Tecumseh packs over 100 specialty shops into a few walkable blocks. That’s not a typo.

After chocolate, head back out onto Chicago Boulevard and work your way through the independent boutiques. You’ll find custom jewelry, specialty clothing, Michigan-made goods, home decor, and gift shops that are nothing like what you’d find at a mall.

Make It Yours Store has a curated selection of unique gifts – handpicked stuff that actually looks like someone thought about it, not a warehouse of mass-produced picture frames. Michigan Wares specializes in products that showcase Michigan makers and artisans. These are the kinds of shops where you actually find things for the person who “doesn’t want anything.”

The Tecumseh Antique Mall is another stop worth ducking into. Multiple dealers under one roof means someone in your group will find a piece they can’t stop thinking about – vintage kitchen gear, old signage, jewelry from decades past, furniture with actual character.

The pace here is whatever you make it. Some groups power through in an hour. Others take three. There’s no wrong answer. Stop when you find something. Keep going when you don’t. The sidewalks are wide, the storefronts change with the seasons, and nobody is going to rush you out of a shop because there’s a line behind you. That’s part of what makes this feel different from a regular shopping trip.

Afternoon Coffee Break

By mid-afternoon, someone in your group will need to sit down. Head to Biggby Coffee for lattes, iced drinks, and a few minutes off your feet.

This is also the point in the day where you compare purchases, show each other photos of things you should have bought, and decide whether to go back for that one thing. (Go back for it. You’ll regret it if you don’t.)

Optional: Yoga or Spa Time

If your group skews more “wellness day” than “shopping marathon,” Tecumseh has you covered there too.

Downtown Tecumseh Yoga offers classes right on the square at 261 Clay Street. Vinyasa flow classes that link breath with movement – a good way to start or end the day depending on your group’s vibe.

Free to Be Yoga & Massage is another local option if you want to mix in some bodywork. And Boulevard Beauty Salon on Chicago Boulevard can handle hair and beauty if anyone wants to add that to the itinerary.

For something more immersive, Sanaras wellness studio offers infrared sauna, cold plunge, hot tub, and therapeutic massage. That’s a whole different kind of girls day – but honestly, it pairs well with the chocolate and shopping if you have the time.

Wrap It Up with Dinner (If You’re Not Ready to Leave)

Most groups hit about 4 or 5 PM and realize they’re not done yet. Good news – you don’t have to be.

Grab a table at one of the downtown restaurants for an early dinner. Sal’s Italian Restaurant on West Chicago Boulevard does pizza, pasta, and has a full bar with craft beers on tap and specialty martinis. If your group wants something more casual, Embers Bar & Grill has been a Tecumseh staple since 1968 and pours solid cocktails.

Either way, you’re eating within walking distance of where you parked. Nobody’s driving across town.

How to Plan Your Girls Day

Getting there: Tecumseh is about 30 minutes southwest of Ann Arbor on M-50. From Plymouth or Northville, it’s about an hour. Free parking everywhere downtown.

Best day to go: Saturday. The Farmers Market runs in the morning (May-October), Harvest Chocolate opens at 9 AM, and all the shops are open.

Budget: The shopping is real, so bring whatever you’re comfortable spending. But the walking, browsing, and people-watching are free. Coffee and chocolate are cheap thrills. Most groups spend between $50-150 per person depending on how much vintage furniture they “need.”

Group size: Works great for 2-6 people. Any bigger and you’ll spend half the day waiting for someone to finish in one shop. Split up and reconvene at Harvest Chocolate – it’s the anchor.
