LENAWEE CO. · TECUMSEH, MI
Tecumseh, Michigan.A SMALL TOWN WORTH THE DRIVE FROM ANN ARBOR
Description

Lenawee County's museum sits in downtown Adrian.

The Lenawee Historical Society building on E Church St keeps the county's record under one roof. Inside you will find settler tools, old telephone switchboards from the operator-era networks, cars, toys, and the kind of everyday objects that explain how Lenawee actually lived through each decade. Adrian is the county seat, about 15 minutes south of Tecumseh, which makes it the natural place for the larger historical collection to live.

Hours run tight: Friday and Saturday from 10am to 2pm only. Plan accordingly, because the rest of the week is closed and there is no walk-in fallback. Two open mornings a week sounds short on paper but is enough time to walk the rooms without rushing if you go in with a focused interest.

Reviews from past visitors land high, with regulars calling it a real find for anyone curious about local genealogy or how the small towns around the county came together. Good for kids who like hands-on objects and old machines, and there is a restroom on site. Pair it with lunch in downtown Adrian to make a half-day of it.
