Description
W.J. Hayes State Park in Onsted sits in the Irish Hills west of Tecumseh, a short detour toward the lakes and back roads. It's the place to go when you want actual trees, trails, and a day spent outside instead of looking at screens - the kind of outing that fills a whole day instead of just filling a gap.
Open 8am-10pm daily, so there's room for an early start or a late walk, and flexibility with timing. Bring good shoes, water, snacks, and the expectation that you're getting out of town for a bit. People consistently return because it delivers exactly what a state park should - open trails, natural space, and room to be outside.
